The Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to participate in various phases of health research, such as data collection and management, data cleaning, analyses and manuscript preparation under the direction of the Principle Investigator (PI), Todd Wagner, Ph.D.

This is a full time, non-exempt (hourly-paid) position. Location: Menlo Park, CA. Benefits:

PAVIR is affiliated with the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS). As a condition of employment, all PAVIR employees are required to have an approved appointment with VAPAHCS and complete a background check.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and interpreting analyses, including researching new data sources and methodology
  • Handle project progress monitoring and documentation
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work
  • Clean data, identify problems with data, and resolve technical problems
  • Assist in data analysis and summarize findings
  • Prepare data for research manuscripts and presentations
  • Participate in various phases of health research, such as coordinating and carrying out data collection
  • Conduct publication and literature searches
  • Monitor datasets and statistical deliverables for quality assurance
  • Collaborate with research team and other experts in the field regarding ongoing analyses of the project
  • Coordinate and attend regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Assist with administrative duties associated with project completion and report dissemination.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or Senior-year Bachelor student with a graduation date scheduled for 2020);
  • 1 year of relevant experience in research and/or health data analysis (may include relevant coursework while completing a college degree);
  • Formal training in research methods and statistics;
  • Strong academic foundation and demonstration of quantitative skills;
  • Knowledge and interest of research in health care settings preferred;
  • Ability to transfer scientific knowledge to practical applications;
  • Technical and analytical skills;
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Ability to comply with rules and regulations for clinical research;
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Efficient time-management and prioritization skills.

Physical Demands: Sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time, repetitive movement, etc.

Environmental Conditions: Office environment.
